Baibars (Al-Malik al-Zahir Rukn al-Din Baibars al-Bunduqdari)
Background: Baibars was a 13th-century Mamluk sultan of Egypt and Syria.
Role: Baibars continued the Mamluk efforts against the Crusaders and Mongols. His military successes included the defeat of the Mongols at the Battle of Ain Jalut in 1260, a pivotal moment in the defense of the Muslim world.
